The Museum «Erlik»

The museum “Erlik” was created and opened in December 2012 on the direct instructions of the mayor of South Kazakhstan Region Askar Myrzakhmetov. On July 19, 2013, it was approved by the branch of the regional Museum of Local Lore. The museum tells about the history of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and the Afghan War of 1979-1989.

The Kasiret Memorial Complex

The Kasiret Memorial Complex was built for victims of political repression. It is located in the Albastysai gorge, where the blood of many people was shed in 1937-1938. The political repressions of the 30s, 40s and early 50s claimed thousands of lives. 101 thousand people were repressed in Kazakhstan, 27 thousand were shot. Of these, 7 thousand people are from Southern Kazakhstan.

Local History Museum

The Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1920. The museum is one of the iconic cultural centers of the city. The main task of the museum with more than 96 years of history is to acquaint the local population and guests of the region with the wonderful natural resources, history and culture of our region. Today, the museum’s collections contain more than 93,000 thousand exhibits.

The museum "Hakim Abai"

The museum “Hakim Abai”, dedicated to Abai Kunanbayev, was opened on September 22, 2009 in Shymkent, in Abai Park. There are guided tours for schoolchildren, videos are shown, lectures are given, and open lessons of Abai’s creativity are held.
