Zhami mosque or mosque “Koshkar ata” is one of the brightest manifestations of the XIX century in Shymkent. This is the only building in Kazakhstan, built on the example of classical Fergana architecture. Built by invited Uzbek craftsmen. The mosque is located in the Old Town (the territorial part is located in the center of Shymkent).
St. Nicholas Cathedral is located in the south-eastern part of the city. It was built in 1985 and is considered one of the newest temple-house complexes of the country in this area. St. Nicholas Cathedral is constructed of red brick.
The central mosque is one of the religious attractions of Shymkent. The mosque, opened in May 2013 by initiative of the first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan and with the direct support of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, impresses with its picturesqueness and scale.
Big mosque named after Seytzhan kari Eszhanuly is located in the new administrative and business center of Shymkent city. The mosque consists of 4 towers. The height of the main dome is 56 meters. While the main central entrance door is for men, the left entrance door is for women.
