The only building in Kazakhstan built on the model of classical Ferghana architecture

Zhami mosque or mosque “Koshkar – ata” is one of the brightest manifestations of the XIX century in Shymkent. This is the only building in Kazakhstan, built on the example of classical Fergana architecture. Built by invited Uzbek craftsmen. The mosque is located in the Old Town (the territorial part is located in the center of Shymkent), popularly called “Mahalla”. The main facade of the mosque has two minarets at the corners and a composition of three arches, complemented by domed lamps.

In the center of the Western Wall of the winter hall there is an impressive mihrab niche, decorated with brightly colored mosaics. On the walls and spotlights of the arches, you can see Arabic script and floral ornate painting. Tourists can also enjoy this beauty, which is a living oasis in the hot climate of the southern city.
