Organized by the «Visit Shymkent» Tourist Information Center, the large-scale “Ethno Shymkent” Festival was held on June 19 of the current year on the territory of the Shymqala Historical and Cultural Complex in celebration of City Day.
The purpose of the festival was to create a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors of the city, promote the national culture and traditions of the Kazakh people, revive national values, and strengthen the city’s tourism image. The festival was a large-scale cultural and educational event aimed at honoring the rich heritage of nomadic civilization in a modern format, promoting family-oriented leisure activities, and creating a unique national atmosphere in an open-air setting.
During the festival, participants had the opportunity to connect with the history of their ancestors, experience the spirit of the Great Steppe, and take part in various creative, handicraft, and sporting activities, enjoying an engaging and meaningful cultural experience.
The festival program included an exhibition of traditional handicrafts, a display of record-sized patchwork quilts (Quraq Korpe), a large concert program, spectacular evening performances (fire show, laser show, and drum show), as well as competitions featuring traditional national games and sports.
